1973’s Classic “Loafer” directed by A. Bhim Singh and featuring the dashing Dharmendra is still remembered for its Hit songs such as, “Aaj Mausam Bada Beiman Hai”, “Koi Shehari Babu”, “Main Tere Ishq Mein”, “Motiyon Ki Ladhi Hun Main” and more.
But apart from its melodious soundtrack, the story plot of the movie is majorly taken from Frank Capra’s “Lady For A Day” (1933) & “Pocketful of Miracles” (1961).
Frank Capra made the first movie “Lady For A Day” in 1933, where a gangster helps a lady to portray herself as a rich socialite in front of her daughter who is coming for a visit.
Then again in 1961, Capra made “Pocketful of Miracles” revolving around the same plot wherein a lady is selling apples which are considered to be lucky by one of her daily customers. The lady’s daughter is coming to visit her and she thinks that her mother is a rich women. A drama is staged where that lady is turned into a rich person and the game goes on.

Now just on the similar lines of the movies mentioned above, in “Loafer” (1973) too, Dharmendra buys his daily lucky apple from Om Prakash, who plays a poor fruit seller in the movie. Om Prakash, finds himself in a problem when his daughter decides to visit him, who believes her father to be a rich & wealthy man living in the city. When Dharmendra comes to know his situation, he helps Om Prakash and makes him a rich man for few days till his daughter is there in the city...........exactly as seen in both Frank Capra Classics.
Interestingly, there are two more movies which follow the same theme as the above.
One is Jackie Chan’s “Ji Ji” or “Mr Canton and Lady Rose” (1989)
And the second is Akshay Kumar’s “Singh Is Kinng” (2008).
Both these movies also have a lady selling roses to the leading man who considers them as lucky and the drama of portraying her as a rich lady in front of her visiting daughter is also right there.
