Osho
One of India’s greatest mystics, was born in Kuchwada, India, on December 11, 1931. From his earliest childhood, he was rebellious and independent spirit, challenging all religious, social and political traditions and insisting on experiencing the truth for himself rather than acquiring knowledge and beliefs given by others.

At the age of 21 on March, 1953, Osho became enlightened.

He says about himself,
" I am no longer, searching for anything. Existence has opened all its doors to me. I cannot even say that I belong to existence, because I am just a part of it ... When a flower blossoms, I blossom with it. When the sun rises, I rise with it. The ego in me, which keeps people separate, is no longer there. My body is a part of nature, my being is part of the whole. I am not a separate entity."

After his enlightenment in 1953, the evolution of a new man became his dream.

In 1966, Osho left the academic world and his post as a philosophy professor at the University of Jabalpur and began touring India intensively and speaking to many hundreds of thousand of people.
At the same time, he was developing practical tools for man's self transformation.

By the late 1960's, Osho had begun to create his unique dynamic meditation techniques. He says that the modern man is so burdened with the traditions from the past and the anxieties of modern-day living, that he must go through a deep cleansing process before he can begin to discover the thought-free, relaxed state of meditaion.

By 1974, a commune had been established around Osho in Pune, India, and visitors from the West have become a flood.

Today his commune is the largest spiritual growth centre in the world.

In the course of his work.
Osho has spoken on virtually every aspect of the development of human consciousness. From Sigmund Freud to Lao Tzu, from George Gurdjieff to Gautam Buddha, from the gospels of Jesus to the songs of Kabir, from Zen masters to Heraclitus, from the meaning of life & death, to the struggles of power and politics, from the challenges of love and creativity, tothe significance of science & education.

His talks to disciples, friends and seekers from all over the world have been published in more than 650 volumes, and translated in over 30 languages. There are over 3000 of these talks recorded on audio tape and over 1,700 on video tape.

In his words,
" The people who remain interested in my work will be simply carrying the torch, but not imposing anything on anybody... I want them to grow on their own, qualities like love, around which no church can be created ; like awareness, which is nobody's monopoly ; like celebration, rejoicing and maintaining fresh childlike eyes. I want people to know themselves, not to be according to someone else - and the way is in."

On Janaury 19, 1990 Osho left his body.

The scope of his work continues to expand as new people discover and become interested in his teachings. The words on his Samadhi, which Osho himself dictated, read :
